Live On

My current dream is to work on tissue engineering and genetic engineering. My hope is first to work in the field using stem cells (adult stem cells from a patient) to decrease the effects of rejection in organ transplants. See: [link] And then I hope to work on engineering tissues to build on carbon lattices that can be used in skin grafts, etc. My ultimate dream is to help generate organs, or part of them (such as in the case of a liver), using a person's own DNA. This would help save millions of lives from renal failure and the like, and would also save lives from deaths due to acute organ rejection.

It's a lofty dream and I have many years of schooling left, but everything starts as a little wish. And I wish for people to live on.
